Herman Who?
One of the biggest assets you can have in your walk with Christ is the ability to properly interpret the Bible. Too many times, well-intended bible studies are full of brothers and sisters sitting around a table pondering to each other, “Well what does that verse say to you?” or “Here’s what that verse is saying to me…” The problem is that what you or I think particular verse means is completely irrelevant. What is important is to be able to properly discern what was the intended meaning of the author. This study will show you how to read scripture without smashing your knowledge into the text, thus causing a possible misrepresentation of what the author intended.
This bible study is entitled, “Herman Who?” The title says it all. Hermeneutics is the art and science of interpretation. Ask most Christians what they know about hermeneutics and they will probably ask, “Herman Who?” Spend 5 weeks and you will receive a condensed 16-week master’s level education on how to read the Bible right. You will never read the Bible the same way again… and you will never have the wool pulled over your eyes by a false teacher.
Paul told Timothy (and us) to “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15) By studying this course, you will be equipped to rightly divide the Word of Truth and read the Bible right.
*****CAUTION*****
The most important idea I can convey to you as you prayerfully consider this study is humility. I quickly learned that things from culture that have impacted my thought process had to be checked at the door when reading the Bible. You may discover that a “life verse” you go by in the Bible may not be intended for the application in which you are using it. And that’s OK. Praise the Lord for putting information in our path to read His work rightly. But please, come with an open mind and a humble, willingness to learn and you won’t be disappointed.
I have already purchased the DVD we will be using. However, I encourage you to purchase a copy for yourself (get it here). All you will need is a study guide to follow along. I will email them out for everyone to print and bring with them. THERE IS NO COST FOR THE BIBLE STUDY, IT’S FREE!
Please use the form below if you are interested in joining this study. If you cannot make it this time, but would like to sign up for next time, you may do so below. Thanks!
